View of the Applecross coast from the cottage

Applecross

Applecross is considered by many to be the jewel in the crown of Wester Ross. Situated with a backdrop of hills and a panorama of sea and distant mountains, it is the perfect place to relax and escape from the pressures of everyday life. Here you will experience the peace and tranquillity of a small and remote Highland community in the midst of some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland.

Saint Island

The scenic beauty of sea and mountains combined is arguably unmatched anywhere in Scotland.  The views across the Inner Sound, where the water is influenced by the Gulf Stream, are spectacular - the rugged profile of the Cuillin of Skye, Raasay, Rona and the islands of the Outer Hebrides providing a magnificent panorama.

Sand Bay

The beautiful sandy bay at Sand is popular with tourists, but is never busy. Sand is the location of Beachcomber Cottage which appeared in the BBC television programme 'Monty Halls Great Escape'.

Until 1976, the only road access to Applecross was by the Bealach na Ba (Pass of the Cattle) which offers spectacular views from the top. The coast road now gives alternative access to the Peninsula, and gives views over Loch Torridon, where many scenes from the film 'Loch Ness' were filmed, and the imposing Torridon mountains.

The Potting Shed

The award winning Applecross Inn offers excellent local seafood as does the Potting Shed Restaurant in the historic Walled Garden of Applecross House. There is a well stocked village store, post office and a community owned filling station. Fresh shellfish can be purchased from local fishermen and croft grown vegetables and other local produce are available at the producers’ market held regularly in the Walled Garden.

As well as glorious scenery and award winning restaurants, you will find abundant wildlife, walking for all abilities and for the more adventurous - boat trips, sea kayaking and climbing.
